The Shadow Harlequin was a floating monstrosity slain by the Heroes of Eastport beneath the Temple in the Fen. Resembling a beholder interpreted by a nervous theatre company, it carried whispering faces on the ends of its stalks and wore a patchwork jester's cap resembling the cloth of the Peddler's tent.
Appearance and Abilities
The creature descended through a cylindrical chamber lit by dim crystals after the party passed through doors carved with laughing, grieving and screaming faces. Its aura dampened magic and caused spells to fail or rebound against their casters. The faces inflicted pain, isolation, forgetfulness, despair, silence and blindness.
Its stalks bore the likenesses of Sloane, Rike Tamil, King Edor Bren, Margeth, Jolene Dennison and an unidentified hooded figure. Whether these were copies, captives, victims or warnings was not determined.
Battle and Remains
The Harlequin wounded the party heavily, bringing down Skaf from Yonder and nearly killing Elion Ashhar-Rah'oul before Brogmar Mossbeard's draconic spirit dealt the final blow.
The remains yielded a mask of whispered faces, a lantern able to pierce magical darkness, the Shadowstitch dagger, a ring capable of stealing reactions, 7,447 gold pieces, and the Journal of Lost Echoes. The journal was described as a list of people targeted by the Crooked Man, providing the clearest recorded link between the creature and Ithak'var.
