Ulfhold is the royal castle of Marterus, standing within the fortified inner district known as the Stone Circle. It contains the royal audience chamber, private apartments and a teleportation circle through which the Heroes of Eastport returned from the Temple in the Fen.
The Heroes were first received in Ulfhold by a figure presented as King Edor Bren. The court commissioned them to investigate the temple, accepted a leaf sculpture from Panda (Sean Gardner), and agreed to protect Jolene and Lithen Dennison after the Scales of Garten incident.
When the party returned through the castle's teleportation circle, the apparent king reacted to their success with rage and transformed into a hideous creature. Several guards also changed form. The Heroes killed the impostor and its minions, after which Skaf briefly assumed Edor's appearance to summon a private council.
Skaf then revealed the deception to Captain Stephen Reynaud, Steward of Marterus, supported by the eyewitness accounts of the guards Gregory and Gragory. The real king's location and condition remain unknown, leaving Ulfhold's current royal occupancy a constitutional detail of some urgency [citation needed].
