The Scales of Garten is a merchant company in Marterus operated by Polin Garten. It is the renamed trading empire of the Dennison family, assumed by Garten after Urgin and Harry Dennison disappeared aboard the Opulence. Its crates, bearing the new company mark, were present even in the impoverished Cloudcombe home of the surviving Dennisons.
The company's headquarters is a heavily defended warehouse with large doors, barred windows and at least eight capable guards. The campaign chronicle describes the Marterus Thieves' Guild as its only competitor, giving local commerce an unusually narrow choice of business models.
The Heroes of Eastport scouted the warehouse while seeking a meeting with Garten. Treynor Galad arranged an introduction under the pretence of a transaction with the fictitious Lord Farroway, but the party instead met chief clerk Lord Boumont. Boumont claimed to be Lord Farroway, then proved to be a monster and attacked. Garten did not attend, and his role remains unknown.
After Lithen Dennison's death, Brogmar Mossbeard addressed the crowd at her funeral and called on the people of Marterus to stand against Garten's influence. The speech linked his family's lost standing to a public challenge to Garten, without establishing responsibility for Lithen's death.
