Treynor Galad, usually known simply as Treynor, is a travelling merchant and card player whose commercial interests span the breadth of the known world with a consistency that several observers have begun to find suspicious. Wherever the Heroes of Eastport travel, Treynor has generally arrived first, set up a table, and expressed delight at the coincidence [citation needed].
The Eastport Betting Table
Treynor first enters the record in the summer of 1487 DR at The Spotless Apple inn of Eastport, where he established a temporary betting table in the corner of the common room. There he engaged the warlock Skaf from Yonder in a series of high-stakes card matches, winning several hands before Skaf's companions intervened. Whether the intervention concerned the fairness of the cards or merely their outcome is not recorded.
Movements
Treynor's origins are entirely unrecorded, a gap in the archives that Treynor has shown no interest in filling. After Eastport, he was next sighted at West Port as the Heroes of Eastport disembarked from The Stubborn Arse, at which point he invited them to seek him out at the Abashed Angel, a high-class establishment in Marterus of similarly unclear purpose. Investigators note that a merchant's stock may travel faster than a merchant, but rarely faster than a ship [citation needed].
The Garten Introduction
In Marterus, Treynor arranged an introduction between the party and Polin Garten, chief operator of the Scales of Garten, under the guise of a trade deal with the fictitious Lord Farroway. The resulting meeting was attended not by Garten but by a chief clerk who proved, in short order, to be neither a clerk nor a person, and the encounter ended in violence. Treynor's role in the arrangement has not been formally examined.
Suspicions
Several details have accumulated around Treynor without yet resolving into an accusation: his acquaintance with the royal guardsman Gerrant Swift, described by the party as "curious"; his complete lack of druidic wares despite an otherwise comprehensive inventory; and his placement, by the druid Brogmar Mossbeard, at the top of a list whose exact nature Brogmar declines to specify. Treynor, for his part, remains cordial, well-stocked, and available for cards.
