Brae

Brae is a forested town on the island of Farmarch, surrounded by dense woodland. A quiet settlement of modest trade, Brae entered the historical record in 1487 DR through an unusually concentrated sequence of calamities involving raiders, a necromancer, and precipitation of livestock.

Governance and Security

Brae is governed by Mayor Balmar Omadi. The peace is kept by the Foundry Men, a company of rangers who patrol the town and its surrounding forests. The arrangement is generally considered effective against ordinary threats, a category into which 1487 DR did not fall [citation needed].

Notable Residents

Among Brae's residents was Osgold, an elderly local in possession of a magical hole, regarded by visitors as one of the wonders of the world and by neighbors as "just Osgold". The town was also home to the merchant Ethor Kelanna, whose shop of magical trinkets concealed a rather different enterprise beneath it.

The Gorsuine Raid

In 1487 DR, Brae was attacked by Gorsuine raiders and many villagers were carried off. The adventurers known as the Heroes of Eastport, in town while hunting the witch Margeth, tracked the raiders to their outpost and freed the captives. A note recovered from the raid's leader, signed "E", exposed Ethor Kelanna as its instigator.

The Fall of Ethor Kelanna

The pursuit of Kelanna through the trap-riddled tunnels beneath his shop uncovered his flesh-golem experiments and ended in the meteorological event now known as the Cownado, in which the wizard was slain by a storm of falling cattle. The town has since recovered, though local farmers continue to count their herds [citation needed].

Surrounding Forests

The deep woods around Brae are the site of several documented curiosities, including an encounter between the Heroes of Eastport and the plane-shifting merchant known as the Peddler, whose extradimensional tent appeared to them during the hunt for Kelanna.
