Ethor Kelanna

Ethor Kelanna was a merchant of the town of Brae who sold magical trinkets from a modest shop while secretly conducting necromantic experiments beneath it. Publicly regarded as a harmless dealer in curiosities, Kelanna was ultimately exposed as the architect of the Gorsuine raid on Brae and the operator of an extensive underground laboratory dedicated to constructing golems from the flesh of villagers. He is one of the few figures in recorded history to have been killed by weather made of cows.

Merchant Career

Kelanna traded in minor enchanted goods and trinkets, a business that provided both an income and a respectable reason to acquire unusual materials. Customers described him as knowledgeable and unremarkable, a reputation scholars now cite as evidence that reviews are not everything [citation needed].

The Gorsuine Raid

In 1487 DR, Brae was attacked by Gorsuine raiders who carried off many villagers. Adventurers tracking the raiders to their outpost freed the captives and recovered a note of instruction signed only "E" — the thread that unraveled Kelanna's double life. Confronted in his shop, he fled through a hidden door into a maze of traps beneath the town.

The Hideout

The tunnels below the shop contained the evidence of Kelanna's true work: preserved remains, apparatus for shaping flesh into golems, and — in a detail investigators have declined to explain — a classroom of seated skeletons, one of which appeared to be teaching. The purpose of the lecture remains unknown [citation needed].

Death

Cornered in his laboratory, Kelanna attacked his pursuers with lashing black tentacles of shadow. The confrontation ended when the druid Brogmar Mossbeard called down the phenomenon now known as the Cownado — a whirlwind of falling cattle that broke the wizard's concentration, and then the wizard. His experiments in Brae ended with him.
