I write this not as an accuser, and not as a judge, but as a friend.
What was done is done. I will not name your actions right or wrong, because I know the world is not that simple, and neither are you.
The life you took had a place in this world. His name was Josef. I will not pretend it left no mark. On Josef, his widow Amy, and of course, on you. Amy lives in agony not knowing the fate of her loved one.
The actions you took weeks back that lead to his death should not be ignored.
The past cannot be changed, but in front you, different paths lie before you, and you must chose one. We do ourselves harm when we act as though a choice comes with no consequence.
I will not ask you to beg forgiveness, nor to seek absolution from a god, a widow, or a council seat. That is not my place, nor would it help.
I ask only that you see what was done.
You may choose to face your actions by sharing them with Amy, or to Duncan. Not to plead, and not to kneel, but to speak plainly of what happened—to place truth where silence would otherwise grow. Spare them the pain of not knowing.
Alternatively, you may choose to carry this alone, to let the shadow take the weight with you. Allow yourself to be consumed by the actions you took, in the heat of the moment.
But Know this: either path will shape you. Not briefly but forever.
To acknowledge that a life was taken without necessity is not a weakness. It is one of the hardest forms of strength there is. Eldath teaches us that facing your actions without being consumed by it is how a soul remains its own.
I healed you when Margeth threatened our lives, without hesitation. I would do so again. Life is sacred—even when it is complicated.
As your trusted friend, and as one who walks a gentler path, I will stand beside you in whatever choice you make, so long as you do not step fully across the line where shadow becomes cruelty, and survival becomes indifference.
I will not abandon you in your time of need. But I will not follow you into evil.
The choice ahead is yours. Walk it with open eyes.
Follower of Eldath,
Your companion, always,
So long as you remain yourself.
